Orchestra planning committee: conductor Paul Dyer, musicians James Hantula and Bob Grove
The Mountain Community Orchestra has been formed to provide an outlet for experienced musicians in the Western Carolina/North Georgia community to maintain and improve their musical skills. Talented area students are encouraged to join the orchestra for an opportunity to broaden their musical experience. The orchestra will present public performances to provide a quality musical experience for area residents. Performances will include a variety of music for full orchestra and chamber ensembles. Selections will be from early, classic, romantic, contemporary, and traditional music.
The Mountain Community Orchestra will serve the community from Franklin to Andrews and Murphy, and from Hiawassee to Blairsville and Blue Ridge. Rehearsals are held in the Band Room, in the Fine Arts Annex, at Young Harris College, Young Harris, Georgia. Performance dates will be posted on this website as they are scheduled.
Conductor Paul Dyer holds B.A. and M.M. degrees in music education and music theory from the University of South Florida and a Ph.D. in music theory from The Florida State University. He has taught music theory, given private instruction on lower brass, and directed instrumental ensembles on the college and community level.
Paul has performed on trombone in symphony orchestras, pit orchestras, concert bands and dance bands, and is currently performing on timpani with the Western Carolina Civic Orchestra in Cullowhee, NC. He has also served as Music Director for several musicals with the Licklog Players, in Hayesville, NC, including such classic musicals as The Music Man, The Sound Of Music, Oklahoma, Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific and Annie Get Your Gun.
